Video Conferencing and Unified Communications: This Isn’t Your Grandfather’s Industry Anymore Presented by Andrew Davis and Ira M. Weinstein (Wainhouse Research)
Video Conferencing and visual collaboration are now part of the mainstream marketing messages from enterprise giants like Cisco, IBM, and Microsoft – companies that have the eyes and ears of the CXO community. As a result, the collaboration industry has shifted from a technology-focused competitive marketplace to one focused on reliability, services, and delivering valued benefits. What does this mean for the enterprise conferencing and collaboration manager, for the channel partner community, and for the vendor partnerships dominating the industry? This session will cover the state of the current video and collaboration industry, economic, cultural, and other forces driving permanent change, and then suggest an outlook of what the future might hold for enterprise conferencing managers.

The Unified Communications Interoperability Forum: Industry Game Changer or Big Yawn? Presented by Steve Zabriski (Polycom, Inc.)
Forrester forecasts that the market for UC within enterprises in North America, Europe, and Asia Pacific will reach $14.5 billion in 2015. And yet, interoperability among UC products is limited and/or ad-hoc at best. According to IDC analyst Jonathan Edwards, “…one of the most significant factors impeding UC adoption today is the lack of interoperability assurance for customers between their existing and pending communications and networking investments and purchases.”

Recognizing need to fully leverage customers’ investments in communications systems and unite their global organizations, more than 20 global technology companies have joined together in the Unified Communications Interoperability Forum (UCIF). To address these challenges, the UCIF will identify common customer scenarios and leverage existing industry standards to resolve the interoperability issues that have stalled broad adoption and deployment of higher-productivity communications.

The UCIF understands the critical role of visual communications within the UC landscape. One of the alliance’s first-year priorities is point-to-point video codecs, interoperability and network optimization. This panel of UC experts will explore the status of UC interoperability today and highlight the UCIF’s strategy and roadmap, paving the road for seamless UC interoperability in the future.

Communications as a Service – A New Way to Consume Unified Communication Services
Presented by Bill Haskins (Global Grossing)
The quality, stability, customization, and support inherent to our CSP industry continue to maintain YOY growth. As the industry embraces SIP service layers, our unified communication service offering is evolving into a true cloud based offer. The fundamental premise behind cloud based services such as Communications as a Service (CaaS) is to deliver easily integrated, standards-based communications options to an organization, using a number of open and flexible technologies. CaaS is essentially a framework for an array of tightly integrated applications where the components contribute to an overall collaborative experience.

In this session, Global Crossing will discuss the fundamental benefits to communications as a service approach, positioning CaaS as a transparent addition to the enterprise’s existing technology, opening the door to the evolution toward contextual collaboration, and sparing the organization from the burdens of network maintenance, services evolution, and support. Additionally, we will share insights into ensuring complete interoperability between the elements of your communications environment that will ultimately lead to the creation of a standard experience across it.

Video Conferencing Interoperability – Protocols, Resolutions, Platforms, Politics, and the User Experience Presented by Ira M. Weinstein (Wainhouse Research)
Thanks to standards like H.323 and H.264, interoperability problems are a thing of the past … or are they? The reality is that today’s visual collaboration environments often include solutions from numerous vendors in a variety of form factors using different communication protocols. This has made even basic connectivity a challenge for many enterprises. In addition, even if calls connect successfully, interop issues may result in a less than optimal experience for your users. This session, which is based on experience gained from tens of thousands of video calls hosted on video systems and MCUs in the Wainhouse Research test lab, will highlight common interop issues and provide recommendations for optimizing the user experience. An update on interoperability in the telepresence world will also be provided.
