Local Telemedicine Firm Donates Equipment to 2 Medical Groups in Haiti
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (January 25, 2010) — GlobalMedia Group, LLC, a telemedicine design group based in Scottsdale, is donating nearly $60,000 in equipment that will allow Intervol and Partners in Health physicians to treat victims of the Haitian earthquake.
Intervol, a Rochester, New York, volunteer medical organization, has sent a team of six physicians to Léogâne, Haiti where there is widespread devastation. Léogâne is 29 miles west of the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince. Partners in Health, supported by four major medical centers in Boston including the Harvard Medical Center, has some 120 doctors and nearly 500 nurses, nursing assistants and social workers at ten hospitals in Haiti. Both groups report that their facilities in Haiti have been overrun with people seeking medical care.
The telemedicine equipment donated by GlobalMedia includes TotalExam™ cameras specifically designed for telemedicine, CapSure® imaging software, high resolution remotecontrolled cameras for videoconferencing, and EasyShare® VC, a videoconferencing service.
Joel Barthelemy, Managing Director of GlobalMedia, said, “We wanted to do our share to help the people in Haiti, so we reached out and found two organizations that can use our technology.” And Barthelemy says the company doesn’t want to stop there. “We would like to double or triple our commitment if the public will partner with us.”
To do that, the Scottsdale firm is offering to match dollar for dollar any contribution people wish to make to purchase telemedicine equipment for Haiti. Barthelemy says every cent of every dollar donated will go towards the cost of the equipment that can help deliver medical care to remote areas of the island nation. Those who wish to donate can call the GlobalMedia Headquarters at (480) 922-0044. Press “0” for operator.
